We are sugaring on the West Shore with around 900 taps we are making the sweet stuff almost everyday at the sugarhouse. It’s a place where the Lane family comes together for dinner and some hard work putting wood on the fire and tending to the evaporator. The steam billows out of the cupola as Alex stokes the fire for more heat on the pan. The 3×10 arch roars with life as the sap dances and bubbles at a roaring boil. Maple Syrup is made at just the right temperature, density, sugar content, and taste. Farmer Dave watches over the pan gently while harmonics of the Wizard radio station plays throughout the sugarhouse. It’s an old tradition and a way of life this time of year on the West Shore of South Hero.
